How much does it pay?

I can't speak to every company out there, there are a lot! But here are a few popular companies and how their pay compares. Please note, below amounts are the highest pay which will include bonuses for attendance, performance, etc. OR you will see a range. Also note that the pay is only for time that you actually teach, not time between classes that you are NOT paid for.
  • VIPKid $22/hour
  • Qkids $20/hour
  • SayABC $19/40 min class
  • GoGoKid $25/hour
  • PalFish set your rate*
  • Cambly $10.20/hour
*average is $10-$18/hour

How exactly do you teach English online?

I'm going to use Qkids English as my example for this one. Lessons are taught through an interactive platform. The teacher will click through the slides and teach material, and this can mean having students repeat vocabulary words, discuss word meanings, or engage in guided discussions. There are also games, reading passages, quizzes and more. There are instructions and suggestions on how to teach each slide, which makes the Qkids platform intuitive and user friendly even for brand new teachers. Here's a tiny example below. Students watch a clip and repeat after the character.

What are the hours?

Mon - Fri 5 am 8 am EST
Sat and Sun 5 am - 8 am EST
and
8 pm - 8 am EST

In that case, especially if you're trying to get daytime hours and you are in the United States, you will likely get students from countries other than China. But back to the peak hours. Here are two examples clipped directly from Qkids and VIPKid.
This sounds awesome, but is it legit?
Yes! I encourage you to always do your research, don't take it from me! Please visit review sites such as Indeed, Glassdoor and any other you can find. I have personally worked for Qkids and SayABC and have been hired on with Cambly, PalFish and iTutorGroup. These companies are legit.
